Porto de Galinhas is one of the most known beach in the northeast of Brazil. Its fame is due mainly to the natural beauty, pools of warm clear water formed among the corals, estuary, mangrove, white sand and coconut trees. Located in Ipojuca, 70 km from Recife, it is one of the most visited beach in northeast coastline. Porto de Galinhas and vivenda dos corais, two paradises in one place.

Porto de Galinhas used to be called Porto Rico, due to pau brasil extraction, a tree that has a red ink. When the slaves came to be sold, they used to come hidden below the chicken grates. The arrival of the slaves were announced with the prhase , we have brand new chicken in the port. Because of this Porto Rico became Porto de Galinhas.

Besides being visited by europeans tourists and brazilians as well that admire its natural beauty, Porto de Galinhas is also visited by the surfers from Pernambuco, it is one of the main place for surfing in the region. Cupe, Muro Alto, borete, Camarões and Maracaípe arealso some of the beaches that surfing is practiced. Porto de Galinhas is also near to Serrambi beach, other main place for surfing in the region.
